Preparing for Your Arrival

Transportation from Richmond International Airport (RIC) to Longwood University

International students are encouraged to take advantage of the free transportation to Longwood University to and from Richmond International Airport (RIC)  provided at the beginning and the end of each semester. Please confirm your arrival/departure plans in advance with the Center for Global Engagement if you wish to use this service. 

*** Arrival***

You cannot arrive in the United States after the program state date on your I-20 or DS-2019 unless you receive a letter of approval from Longwood University.
You have a 30-day grace period after the end date listed on your DS-2019 (or 60 days if you have an I-20), during which you may remain in the United States on your student visa.  

Bus and Taxi Information

Please make alternative arrangements for transportation if you do not arrive at Longwood University on the scheduled free transportation date. A friend or a family member may pick you up, or you may hire a bus or taxi to take you to Farmville. However, please be advised that Longwood University is about one hour drive from Richmond International Airport and that hiring a taxi would be very expensive. 

Pay by credit or debit card only (cash accepted for the tip). 

 
  • Virginia AirLink - transportation available to or from Longwood, Richmond International Airport, or the bus and train stations. Book at least 12 hours in advance online or by phone. For last-minute transportation, please call to check for availability. 
  • Virginia Breeze - Northbound Schedule available to or from Walmart Supercenter in Farmville and Main Street Station in Richmond.

International Student Orientation 

International Student Orientation is mandatory for all first-year and transfers international students, and it will cover the information about:

 
  • Visa regulations and how to maintain good legal status in the United States for both F-visa and J-visa students. 
  • How to prepare for the academic environment at Longwood and the academic support services available. 
  • The Farmville community, including public transportation, banking information, the bookstore, and where to shop and eat. 
  • Opportunities for social interaction and involvement in student lift. 
Please bring your passport, I-20 or DS-2019, proof of health insurance, and certificate of immunization when you come to the International Student Orientation.
